Little History on Waterbeds
Did you ever wonder when waterbeds were made? Well having a waterbed myself I thought I would look up just to see when they came out. I figure it was around the early 60’s or later. Guess what I was wrong it was even earlier then the 60’s.
In the early 1800’s a type of waterbed was invented by a Scottish physician by the name Dr. Neil Arnott .The bed called a Hydrostatic Bed was to help prevent bedsores in invalids. This bed was a bath of water with a covering of rubber-impregnated canvas,on which was put lighter bedding. Dr. Arnott did not patent the bed making it so anyone could construct a bed like this design.
Dr. William Hooper of Portsmouth, England, did patent a waterbed in 1883. It was used to relieve bed sore pains in his patients. His invention was a failure due to trying to contain the water and control of the temperature.
Charles Hall created the modern waterbed in 1968 with the help of fellow students. He want to make an innovative chair, but was uncomfortable he settled on perfecting a bed. He succeeded but due to a waterbed begin described in a couple of novels by Robert A. Heinlein, Hall was unable to obtain a patent on his creation.
Today we still have waterbeds who really design them is not quit clear. They are part of our décor with their waterbed sheets in single, queen and king size.
I hope you enjoyed this is bit of history on waterbeds and I hope to find more out about waterbeds in the near future.
Sprucing up the Bathroom
After a long cold winter and summer around the corner you decide that the one room in your house that could use a sprucing up is the bathroom. Don’t want to spend a whole lot of money in renovating as it could become costly.
Putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls is truly amazing. Choose shades of creams, beige or sage green that will be serene and peaceful while you take that relaxing bath. Painting the ceiling in a sky blue will remind you of the great outdoors.
Looking around you find that your towels and bath mats are old and dingy. Replacing them with bright new towel sets and cotton bath mats gives your bathroom a brand new feeling.
Small accessories make a difference in sprucing up the bathroom too. Putting is a wicker shelf or a metal shelf to hold some new fragrant candles; you can light when relaxing in the tub. Have a window cell put fresh flowers in a vase once and a while bringing in the out doors. New soap dishes and tooth brush holder and cup can make your bathroom feel new.
Now go and take that relaxing bath and enjoy the new fresh look you have given to your bathroom.
Queen Size Bed and King Size Bed What Makes Them Different
Have you ever wonder what the difference is between a queen size bed and a king bed.
You will probably tell me that it’s obvious that the king is a slight bigger than the queen bed. But do you know the measurements if each bed.
When doing my research on finding the right size of each bed I found that there is your queen size bed, a standard king size bed and the California king bed. All of these are different sizes. Your queen bed is 60″wide by 80″ long. The difference in the two king beds are the standard king can be 76″ or 78″ wide by 80″ long. The California king is 72″ wide by 84″ long making a noticeable difference in the two.
When it comes time to purchase your sheets for your bed make sure to measure as the two king beds have different size of king size sheet sets.
Decorate with the Seasons

If you’re looking to change up the look and dynamic of your room for the coming warm weather, look into changing some of your bed linen before you make more drastic changes to the room. To that end, make sure that the color of your bed linens is appropriate to the season. If, for example, your duvet covers are dark in color, they might be more appropriate for winter or fall months. Light colors or pastels, however, are more appropriate for spring or summer.
Also make sure that the texture and weight of those linens is appropriate as well. If the linen is very heavy, it will simply be too overbearing for the lightness of warmer months. You also have to consider the practicality of this linen. If the sheets or covers are too heavy, they will be uncomfortably warm when those summer nights don’t cool off. Change out the linen, and you could be surprised how much more spring-ready the room looks.
Luxury Silk and Satin Bedding
Wanting that luxury feeling of silk and satin bedding against your skin and on your bed will cost you a lot less then you think. When you indulge yourself in the pure silk of the sheets and pillow cases or the silk Duvet set and silk comforter sets you will feel like you are a movie star.
Luxury satin bedding is affordable alternative to pure silk giving you an added touch of style and elegance to your bedroom. The many colors will also enhance the look and feel of your bedroom giving you a place of romance and relaxation.
To finish the décor of your room you can add matching frilly satin bed skirt or luxury throw with matching silky pillow covers and matching drapes.
Pure silk or soft satin is no longer for the rich and famous to sleep in because the new silk fabrics are easier and cheaper to produce. With the techniques and blending of the fibers makes them much harder wearing. Very easy to care for this style of bedroom linen will keep your bedrooms looking exclusive wash after wash. These silk and satin materials are a great investment in style and luxury for years to come.
