Having your new comforter for a couple of weeks your love started to show. It now has stains on it. You think that’s ok I will just throw it in the wash but, after see the only dry clean tag you decided a better idea was to wash on delicate wash. When you take it out it is not as clean as you wanted it still had stains, so you tried a heavy duty cycle that didn’t help because it still had stains and it got rip from the power of the heavy duty cycle. Well now all there is to do is to dry your comforter and maybe it will be ok but it comes out with little balls of lint on it. You know how to sew so you will try to salvage your bedding with your great sewing skills. After all that you look at your new or not so new comforter and decide the best place for it is in the garbage.

BUT WAIT! Don’t throw out your new comforter that you bought, there is a way to save and turn it into the lovely piece of bedding that you love so much. Duvet cover sets can salvage what is left of you comforter  that you were embarrass to put back on the bed. This way you can save your comforter and many happy years out of it, I truly recommend that you use duvet cover sets. You will be glad that you did.

Pets Beneath the Bed

egyptian-cotton-bed-skirtSeveral pet owners out there have had the experience of their pets enjoying spending time underneath their beds.  Both dogs and cats enjoy this kind of space because it offers protection, and offers a private retreat from people and other animals.  Dogs might grow fond of stashing bones and dog toys beneath your bed, keeping their treasures safe and to themselves.  If you would like to develop a personal space for your pet beneath your bed, consider having a Egyptian cotton bed skirt. This will keep light out and also offer more privacy for your dog or cat.

You might also want to take extra steps to avoid a dangerous situation by placing 2×4 wooden blocks underneath your bed. You wouldn’t want your pet to be harmed if for some reason one of the bed legs fell off.

goose-down-king-size-pillow-eachCan you wash feather pillows also known as down pillows? Yes you can but you have to take great care as these pillows are made with soft goose and duck feathers. They will last longer with less cleaning. Wash you down pillows once or twice a year. Our body oils permeate the fabric making the down damp with makes the pillow flat. Washing cleans and fluffs the feathers back up. Dry cleaning damages the goose down  pillows. Use a soap that is recommended for this type of bedding.

Down pillows can be washed in a washing machine. Make sure the pillows are the only article being washed using a small amount of detergent and delicate cycle. Be sure that you check the pillows for any rips or tears .You could end up with a big mess if the pillows get torn apart. Taking your down bedding to a Laundromat is a good idea as you can easily fix them into the washers and dryers as they are a commercial size and don’t have the same agitating motion as household machines. Make sure to ring out any excess water before you either hang them out to dry or put them in a dryer. If you smell a funny odor don’t worry it is from the down feathers and will go away when the pillow is dried. Check your pillows often while they are drying to fluff them ,and make sure there not getting to hot.

Taking care of your down pillows doesn’t stop there. When not using your pillows store the pillows away in a well ventilated cupboard or closet to prevent molding. Cover them with a zippered case to use under your normal pillow case to keep away body oils from spoiling the down. If your pillows get to old, ripped or torn have them replaced. Proper care of your down pillows will give you lots of years of enjoyable sleep.

Platform beds provide the same support as box spring mattress. They are less expensive then the traditional beds. The plat form bed reduces the amount of bedding required, as they don’t need bed skirts.  The thickness of one mattress, these beds reach lower height. Platform beds establish a modern minimalist décor in the bedroom.

Platform beds have four legs, one at each corner, but sometimes they rest on a rectangular box. The box is slightly smaller then the mattress, can house hidden storage. Some people like the storage area open. This way they can fit large baskets or decorative bins under the bed to keep out of site.

Exotic and environmentally friendly lumber is used to build these beds because consumers are concerned with low environmental impact. Platform beds are often made with hardwoods commonly framed and harvested in Asia, such as teak, palm and ramen. These are not old growth or endangered trees. They may be more expensive then oak; these species have less of an effect on threatened forests.

Decorators appreciate the smooth lines of platform beds, as they are stylish yet functional furnishings.

twin-blush-chocolate-hotel-3pc-duvet-cover-setDuvets come in different sizes to accommodate the different sizes of beds. The common bed sizes are twin, full, queen and king The import ant’s of getting the right size for your bed is if its too big it make s it difficult to sleep and too small does not provide warmth for the whole body. There is not much of an issue with the depth of a duvet. If you were buying sheets its important that they will fit over the entire mattress, but each duvet usually has a similar thickness. Standard-size duvet covers fit snugly around a duvet of the corresponding size.

Twin beds are the smallest size bed available, other then children’s beds or cribs. Twin duvet covers are the smallest available. Twin-size duvet covers measure 64inches by 90 inches. Full-size is bigger then the twin but much smaller then queen or king size duvets. The measurements of a full size duvet are 86 inches by 90 inches, queen-size duvet measures 108 inches by 90 inches and the king-size duvet is the largest measuring at 102 inches by 108 inches.

Keep in mind that the lager duvet covers usually cost more then the smaller seizes, Make sure to buy the right size as people need to be fully covered when sleeping during the cold nights, so buying small duvets to save money is not a good idea.

kingsizeThread counts do matter. It is not just some frilly nickname to luxurious hotel-like fabrics. Rather, it also determines the quality and life span of fabrics. It also determines how coarse or fine a fabric can be, based on the number of threads woven in it.

How does it work? For example, the fabric on your king sheet set says 200 thread count. That means in a single square inch of the bed skirt’s fabric there are 100 threads woven horizontally and there are 100 threads woven vertically. The counts of the threads woven in both directions are combined to come up with the final thread count.

Queen Size Mattresses

Queen size mattresses are amongst the most popular size. Their size makes them comfortable, as you can stretch out into your preferred sleeping position without your hands or feet hanging off the bed and without disturbing your partner. A queen mattress set is a great investment.

Queen Size Mattress Dimensions

A queen size measurement is sixty by eighty inches. When you compare this to a standard double bed at fifty four by seventy five inches you can see that it is more generous and therefore a lot more comfortable if you like to stretch out.

An Olympic queen size mattress measures sixty six by eight inches. Simmons is well known for this size and it is worth buying one of these if you want some extra room.

Buying Tips

You will need a bed frame with five or six legs to support a queen size mattress because it is bigger and heavier than smaller models. If your bed has a headboard and footboard, you will need to use a minimum of five wooden slats with three of them arranged in the center third of the bed.

An innerspring mattress will last about ten years. A memory foam or latex mattress should last double this amount of time. Some memory foam can last for twenty five years but they do vary according to how you treat them and what kind of brands you have. When it is dirty, you can clean it with a slightly damp cloth and a mild surface cleanser or with a vacuum cleaner.

A queen size mattress needs to go on top of a firm base so it does not sag. You should rotate a new mattress every four weeks for the first half a year, and then every couple of months after that.

We always should make sure that we take the measurements of our mattress to get the perfect fit ted sheets as some mattresses need queen sheet sets with deep pockets.
