Thread counts do matter. It is not just some frilly nickname to luxurious hotel-like fabrics. Rather, it also determines the quality and life span of fabrics. It also determines how coarse or fine a fabric can be, based on the number of threads woven in it.

How does it work? For example, the fabric on your king sheet set says 200 thread count. That means in a single square inch of the bed skirt’s fabric there are 100 threads woven horizontally and there are 100 threads woven vertically. The counts of the threads woven in both directions are combined to come up with the final thread count.
