Platform beds provide the same support as box spring mattress. They are less expensive then the traditional beds. The plat form bed reduces the amount of bedding required, as they don’t need bed skirts.  The thickness of one mattress, these beds reach lower height. Platform beds establish a modern minimalist décor in the bedroom.

Platform beds have four legs, one at each corner, but sometimes they rest on a rectangular box. The box is slightly smaller then the mattress, can house hidden storage. Some people like the storage area open. This way they can fit large baskets or decorative bins under the bed to keep out of site.

Exotic and environmentally friendly lumber is used to build these beds because consumers are concerned with low environmental impact. Platform beds are often made with hardwoods commonly framed and harvested in Asia, such as teak, palm and ramen. These are not old growth or endangered trees. They may be more expensive then oak; these species have less of an effect on threatened forests.

Decorators appreciate the smooth lines of platform beds, as they are stylish yet functional furnishings.
