What to Look for in Quality Sheets

High thread count is important, of course, as you don’t want those sheets to turn threadbare after a few wash cycles. The type of cotton fibers matters as well. As many people are already aware, Egyptian cotton sheets contain a long fiber that adds up to preeminent softness and comfort.

But it also pays to think outside the box while sheet shopping. Did you know, for instance, that not all sheets contain the same type of thread weave. King percale sheets feature an especially tight weave with an excess of threads. They are often made of pure cotton, but polyester and linen are occasionally used as supplementary fabrics. Percale sheets are characterized by a smooth, crisp feel, and they grow stronger with use.

Don’t Forget the Bottom of the Bed

bed-skirtsSo you’ve furnished your bed with a comfortable downy comforter, smooth satin sheets and a comely cotton duvet. You might think that you’ve created the softest, most satisfying sleep experience around – and you’re not far off the mark. All that remains to be settled are the final few aesthetic flourishes that can take your bed to the next level. It might be fit for a prince now, but soon it will be worthy of a king.

Attention is typically lavished on the bedspread, and the lower part of the bed is neglected. No one wants to see the unsightly dust and debris that accumulate under a bed; bed skirts can obscure those unpleasantries entirely. Skirts come in both ruffled and pleated varieties, both of which are suitable for upper-scale bedrooms and should be selected based on the room’s style and theme.

Water Beds in the Modern Age

Although water beds have fallen out of favor a bit in recent years, they were all the rage just a few decades ago. At the height of their popularity in the 1970s, practically every household in America contained at least one water bed. They boast an astounding level of comfort, but some maintenance is required. Newer beds tend to feature pump systems that make the task of filling or draining a bed remarkably simple.

When filling a water bed, take special care to wrap any potential leakage areas with towels and other linens. You’ll probably find it easiest to attach a garden hose to the pump. It’s then time to add some conditioner to mix with the warm water. Before you know it, you’ll be topping things off with a fetching set of waterbed sheets. Then lean back and enjoy your little piece of history.
