bronze-damask-stripe-down-alternative-4pc-comforter-setLet’s check it out to see what really makes these two comforters different. We have heard them called California King, Standard King and also Eastern King comforters, but people are still confused between the three.

The King Standard comforter and the Eastern King comforter are the same size. Looking the King mattress which has the dimension of 76 in. wide x 80 in. long. Most think that the term California King Comforter is the next step up in size like the Twin to Queen/Full to Standard King and onto the mighty California King which even sounds cool and big.

To compare the two different size mattresses the King standard (or Eastern) size mattress is shorter and wider then the California King.

The California King Mattresses are longer and thinner .then the standard mattresses.

Here are the Length and Width for King Bed Measurements:

Standard King Bed Mattress: 76 in. wide x 80 in. long

California King Bed Mattress: 72 in. wide x 84 in. long

blush-chocolate-bloomingdale-bedin-a-bagNow that spring is here with nice warm weather it time to shed the dark colors from our bed and make it our new personal luxury space. We spend one third of our time sleeping, so let’s make our bed as comfortable as we can.

When we talk about is everything from the sheets to the quilt on the top of the bed. Sheets are categorized by there thread count. The more thread count the softer they become. Average sheets are around a 90 thread count which makes them nice, but for luxurious sheets you look at a 300 thread count. The higher the count the more expensive sheets become.

Pick out the highest thread count bedding set you can afford. Next is the comforter on your bed.  There are a few options to choose from. You could choose wool, silk down feathers or synthetic polyester. If some one suffer from allergies check the labels of any linens to see if it is hypoallergenic. One of the bedding sets you could conceder is a luxury bed in a bag with all your linens matching is color and pattern. You could add a nice throw cover to the bottom of your bed using an accent color to your sheets and comforter.

Now to finish of your bed to look luxurious lets add different sizes and shapes of pillows on the top of the bed.  Don’t forget to choose colors to match your bedding. Add two large pillows at the top of your bed agents the head board to give a felling of depth. You have now made your room and bed look like it was done by a designer.

Making your bedroom the most wonderful luxury space is done just by you choosing the right bedding set that you love.

Spring Break-Staying in Clean Hotel Rooms

fairmont_banff_springs_hotel_roomSpring Break! This is a week were families, and young adults take a vacation to sunny parts of the world to relax, have fun in the warm climates away from the last parts of winter.

This might be your first time to vacation away from home or you could be a frequent traveler. When booking your hotel you will want to make sure it has good reviews. There are a number of ways to reassure yourself that you are staying in the cleanest hotel possible. Here are four things you can do to make your vacation a memorable and clean one.

#1 Be Picky: When choosing a hotel room to be clean don’t let your decision be dictated by the price: expensive does not always mean clean.  You must look at the hotels reputation. Books and travel guides rate hotels on many factors, one being clean.

#2 Look Around: Just by looking at a hotel room it’s pretty easy to see if it’s clean or dirty. If your towels are dirty and the bath tub is grimy mention it to the staff. You notice that the sheets are stained, the TV stand has a large collection of dust, ask to be moved. Your not only paying for the room, you are paying for a clean one.

#3 Stay away from Rooms that Allow Smoking and Pets: Pet’s can dirty up a clean room with just there hair and muddy or wet paws. They walk on the clean carpet and jump on the beds. If someone smoked in a room the smoke linger in the air and rest on tangible items in the room leaving them discolored and fill with ash-tray like smell.

#4 Get Rid if the Spread: The bedspread on the bed! If there is one item that has not been clean in a while it’s probably the comforter when we think about it you probably don’t wash your comforter at home that often maybe waiting for spring cleaning time of the year. Many times hotel room bedspreads aren’t washed on a regular base. Sheets are washed regularly. The best thing to do is remove the comforter off the bed and leave it in a corner of the room. Hotels with duvet covers on their beds are much easier to keep clean.

With people coming and going it’s hard to keep track of all the germs. Hotels reputed for cleanliness are often reputed for a reason: they are in fact clean.

Hope your Spring Break is a happy and clean one.

Luxury Bed Linens

What defines luxury? For everything, there is a different answer, and it’s not always clear cut. In fact, many times, luxury is different for different people. In a car, some people feel luxury is simply big, soft seats. Some people have to have a lot power at their disposal. Others want a lot of high tech gadgets. Many people feel that a luxury car is a combination of all these factors. So what is luxury bedding?

What Is A Duvet?

The traditional stuffing for the duvet is down from the Eider Duck, called Eiderdown. The duvet was not invented with luxury in mind, but rather to keep warm using something nearby. Now that duvets can be found all over the world, those still made with Eiderdown definitely fall under the category of luxurious bedding. A duvet covers generally replaces comforters and blankets, and is then itself covered since the Eiderdown is difficult to clean.

What Makes Luxury Bed Sheets?

Bed sheets are normal, but not all are luxury bed sheets. There are several different ways to measure quality in bed sheets, though only a few are used everywhere. This is thread count, as well as the threads’ country of origin. Choosing your luxury bedding should involve more research than just those terms, but they’re the two you’ll see most often advertised. The best, softest luxury bed linens don’t necessarily have the highest thread count, or come from Egypt.

Matelass

Although sometimes marketed as a luxury bed linen all its own, it’s traditionally not. In fact, this French word actually means “padded”. When referring to luxury bedding sets, it generally means a hand quilted, thick luxury bed linen which, ironically, has no padding within it at all. Sometimes there are designs quilted into the linen, but sometimes it’s just a generic quilted pattern. They’re usually 100% cotton, though some Matelass is made of other things.

Coverlet

For the most part, the coverlet is purely decorative, and often sits atop a duvet or other thick covers. Besides being used on a luxury bed, the coverlet can also be found being used a throw blanket, or even a picnic blanket. They are generally quite thin, and are rarely suitable for keeping warm. Although coverlets have been around for a while, they have been largely replaced by duvet covers in most luxury bedding ensembles. The coverlet is still used by some, though, and can be found in a wide variety of designs and patterns. They can be purchased individually, or found in a luxury bedding set.

Simple Solutions to Sleepless Nights

gooseI started having trouble sleeping a few months ago and just couldn’t pinpoint the cause of the problem. At first it occurred to me that I should stick to a regimented sleep schedule - maybe a strict routine would get my mind and body used to resting at a given time of night. That approach didn’t work at all; I just spent even more time tossing and turning in bed. Then I saw my doctor and he prescribed some sleep aids.

The pills did what they were supposed to do - they knocked me out and left me hazy and exhausted the next day. I knew then that pharmaceuticals were not the answer; rather, it was up to me to find a safe, natural solution. A friend recommended that I take a simple approach and just find some softer bedding. I switched from my lumpy old blankets to goose down comforters, and the difference was immediately apparent. Ever since, I’ve been sleeping soundly through the night.

summer-wedding-pictures-098 Last week I had the opportunity to stay at a 3 star hotel. I was going to a small conference in a city not far from home but knowing it would be late at night to drive home I decided to book a room. I book the hotel on line and some times you wonder if the rooms are as nice as the pictures.

When I walk into the hotel it was every bright and clean and well kept. The room I had was just like the picture on the website.

It had a mini kitchen with full frig, 2 electric burners to cook on, a microwave oven and a dish washer all the amenities of home. There was chesterfield on one side of the room and the bed on the other.

The bed was made up with nice white cotton sheets and lots of pillows. The comforter was a chocolate color with a white design through it. There was also a matching pillow to go with the down comforter.

This room was all that I hope it would be well maintain ,clean, bright and with all the luxuries you look for when you book a hotel room away from home.

This hotel was to me a 3 + more and I would look to stay at this hotel again if it was in the area I was going to in the future.

Bamboo SheetsAs winter approaches, we need to check that we have everything we need for a cozy warm bed. This checklist will help make the freezing cold nights comfortable.

Down comforters are very fluffy and luxurious and comfortable. If you don’t have one consider buying one as it is essential for a good night slept. The good down comforter can be expensive. There are affordable prices out there that are well worth the comfort and warmth.

People with allergies might prefer down alternative comforters made from polyester fibers provides insulation that is good as down.

Flannel and Bamboo Sheets

Flannel sheets in the winter months give people a feeling of snugness and safety during freezing winter nights. Flannel sheets are made from a blend of wool and cotton.

Bamboo sheets are more recent and offer an eco-friendly alternative to flannel and traditional sheets. Bamboo is very smooth with a natural sheen to the surface and feels like silk or cashmere. Bamboo fabric adjusts to the temperature of our bodies and is more absorbent than cotton.

Down or Down Alternative Pillows

For that cozy, warm winter night sleep our last choice is a comfortable down pillow. The Lowdown on Goose Down

goosefeather6xkMarketing campaigns can be misleading, and it seems no industry is safe from tricky language and offers that are slightly too good to be true. This phenomenon has spread to the bedding industry in the form of the “Siberian goose down” blanket. There’s a sneaky bit of psychology at play here: We think of Siberia as one of the coldest places on Earth. Surely a Siberian goose would require specially insulating feathers to survive there. Don’t be fooled; very few Siberian goose down products are genuine.

Rather than focusing on creative marketing techniques to persuade you in your purchasing habits, look at quantitative evidence. You can judge the worth of a goose down comforter based on its fill power. This measurement is attained by compressing an ounce of down under a specified weight, and then releasing the pressure to see how much the down expands. A down filling that takes up 600 cubic inches of space per ounce, for instance, would be listed as 600 fill power. Higher fill power equates to higher-quality bedding.
